A GOOD AMOUNT OF the original decoration at 23 Street can no longer be seen. Some of it has been destroyed, some is hidden behind walls, and some is hidden behind newstands and other more recent additions to the station. At the newstands on both sides of the station, a name panel can be seen on the wall. Distinguishing elements of this station include the double "23" plaques that run at intervals along the cornice (one of which is near the upper right corner of the photo), the mosaic wall panels below them, and corbels where ceiling beams meet the wall. |
