BOTH OF THESE
PHOTOGRAPHS were taken about a year before the new subway opened
to the public. The platform has already been constructed, and the
finishing touches are being added to the station. Note that the top
photo is looking towards the "start" of the station, where trains
enter after leaving Brooklyn Bridge, and the bottom photo is looking
toward the other end. At the bottom, one of the "City Hall" ceramic
name panels may be seen; they are like no other in the subway. A
curved version of such a sign graces the arch over the stairs that
lead up to the mezzanine, where the oak ticket booth was once located. |
