The server maintains both current and back issues of The Tech. The archive currently contains all of our issues from 1992 to the present, along with many issues from 1990 through 1992. We are working on providing copies of all our issues from 1985 to the present. The articles provided may be freely distributed electronically, if they are distributed in their entirety and include the copyright notice, but may not be reprinted without the express written permission of The Tech. The Tech is currently converted from QuarkXPress using
software written by our staff. Although the software is customized
for our paper, the code is
available. 
We have extracted the Quark-to-HTML conversion and made it a
stand-alone software package. Prior to Quark, The Tech used
the Atex editorial system. As you can see from the photo at left,
Atex used to sit right where The Dash Tech now lives. Because the old
Atex-to-Html software (GOP) had some flukes, you may notice some
errors in the archive.
Here are the gory technical details of the server: We run Apache HTTP Server 1.1 on a SPARCclassic running Solaris 2.4; the Sparc has 48 MB of RAM. Archive searching uses a recent version of glimpse with a Perl front-end that translates search results into headlines.
