THE STATIONS AT
79 Street, 86 Street and 91 Street all share the same basic layout and
design. A lot of the original wall has been replaced at this
station. For example, there are yellow Transit Authority tiles on the
wall behind some of the original round pillars of the station, before
the platforms were extended, indicating areas of the wall that were
felt to be too damaged to be repaired. Most of the original decoration
remains near the entrances, especially near the token booths. Note the
smaller "79" name panel just to the left of the center of the photo;
this same pattern reappears at 86 Street and 91 Street. Also note the
"79" terra cotta panel near the cornice, at the left of the
photo. These panels were designed such that any numbers could be put
in, for use in any station.
