"Chai, chai, cha-eee ... Chai, chai, cha-eee!" On most Indian trains the persistant cry of the chai-wallah (tea-seller) is a reassuring sound heralding the arrival of a 3 rupee cup of sweet chai. On the Ooty train, however, Dave was our chai-wallah, risking life and limb fighting his way to the refreshment stand to cure our urgent need for food and beverage. The ride lasted around 8 hours, but we had Sirus and Nicky to talk to - they were Londoners on a many-months-long world tour.
