Ouro Preto

After a difficult bus tour we arrived in Ouro Preto at midnight on Sunday. The next day I took a walk around town and took most of the following pictures.

Ouro Preto is an inland town that thrived off gold mining in the 1700s. When the gold ran out, the city was abandoned, and thus mostly preserved. Its baroque churches are the main draw, but it is also famous as the place where a small rebellion broke out against the Portuguese, the Inconfidenza Mineira.
