This Baldwin locomotive was unearthed intact from recent construction on train lines around Changchun. The engine was used by the Russians in construction of the line connecting the Trans-Siberian through Harbin and Changchun and down to Port Arthur and Dalian. The engine now sits in front of the Puppet Imperial Palace.


The high-speed rail to Harbin from Changchun is newly completed (at the time of my visit). The station in Harbin is a vast complex, probably 100 times larger than the station built by the Russians downtown.
