I took the high-speed rail to visit Hangzhou and Nanjing in Spring 2012. Hangzhou is famous for the West Lake, with its countless pagodas and sightseeing boats. (It was smoggy the day I went.) Nanjing is the southern capital of China; it served as capital briefly in the Ming Dynasty and again briefly during the days of Nationalist China under Chiang Kaishek. Water-painting in Hangzhou
