![]() The other main palace used by Vienna's Habsburg monarchy was the Hofburg; it has been the seat of Austrian government and royalty since the 1200's and remains the official residence of the Austrian federal president. Like the Schonbrunn, the rooms were left mostly as they were under the last Emperor, Franz-Josef, and his wife Elizabeth (Sissi). Many of the exhibits focus on Sissi, her depression, and her assassination in Geneva. The interiors are almost an exact match for those of the Schonbrunn, cream-colored walls with elaborate rococo gold trim throughout. |
