This time I'm archiving the photos on Flickr,
though it is
currently blocked in

The itinerary of this Napoleonic (and Nelsonic) grand tour was as
follows:

siege

took place immediately after Montenotte in the 1796
campaign
- Dego, just down the hill from Montenotte
- Marengo, site of one of Napoleon's most notable battles, from
the 1800 against Austria
- Pavia, site of a pivotal 1525 battle in which French King
Francois I was taken prisoner
- Lodi, site of Napoleon's victory over the Austrians in 1796
- Mantua, city that was cornerstone of Austria's defense of
Northern Italy in 1796, besieged by Napoleon
- Solferino-Castiglione, decisive battle in 1796 where Napoleon
and his generals prevented an effort to relieve the siege of Mantua,
and also home to the decisive battle of the 1859 Franco-Piedmontese
defeat of Austria that ultimately set in motion the unification of
Italy
- Rivoli-Veronese, site of Napoleon's victory over another
Austrian force seeking to relieve Mantua in 1796
- Arcole, where Napoleon was nearly killed in an unsuccessful
effort to storm a bridge
- San Marino, micro-nation
- Porto Ferraio, Elba, home to Napoleon for less than a year
- Savona, pretty port city
- Cagnes-sur-Mer, Riviera town
- Antibes, home to the Fort Carre, where Napoleon may have spent
several nights in jail during the French Revolution
- Cannes and Golfe Juan
- Frejus and Saint-Raphael, where Napoleon arrived from Corsica
from Egypt, and from whence he departed for Elba on the
Undaunted.
- Menton, Riviera town
- Bastia, Corsican walled town besieged by Nelson and Hood in 1796
during the British assault on Corsica
- Saint-Florent, a small town and inlet where the British fleet
often anchored during the occupation of Corsica and activities in
the Mediterranean
- Calvi, another Corsican walled town besieged by Nelson during
the 1796 British assault on Corsica; Nelson was injured while
placing artillery in the hills overlooking town, and subsequently
lost his eyesight in one eye as a result
