At the Genesis Eco-Hotel

After a long local bus trip to Valladolid in the center of the Yucatan, I found a taxi willing to take me a further 30 km or so to the small Mayan village of Ek-Balam, where I stayed the second night in the Genesis Eco-Hotel. Lee, the Canadian owner of the hotel, greeted me in English on my arrival, gave me a tour of the hotel, and explained that the room I'd reserved with a bathroom was still under construction. Instead, she offered the "bird house," a two-storey cabana with no bathroom but a nice breeze and hammock. Idyllic.
