Journal of a Tour to the Hebrides (and Scotland & England)

Back in Fort William the next day, the bad weather provided little opportunity for anything other than watching the boats and trains. (The town's English name derives from its origin as a garrison built in the 1700s to prevent another Scottish rebellion.) The following pictures show the progress of the steam excursion train on its departure from Fort William for Mallaig. The locomotive, the "Lord of the Isles," runs backwards on this leg, since there is no Y or turntable at Mallaig.
