Journal of a Tour to the Hebrides (and Scotland & England)

The weather continued threatening throughout my time in Scotland and the Hebrides (with the exception of the sunny day on Rum). It didn't rain the day I took the ferry to the Isle of Mull and walked the approx. 10 mile round-trip road to Duart Castle on the island's eastern tip. The castle is an old clan stronghold. Its clan lords chose the Jacobite side during the 1745 Rising. The English left a garrison to hold it after that, and thus it still stands, guarding the straits between Mull and the mainland.

Immediately opposite Duart Castle is the light guarding the channel for ships bound to Oban and further inland to Fort William.
