San Sebastian is a beautiful town on bay in the heart of Spain's Pais Vasco. I first heard of it from Hemingway's The Sun Also Rises, and I had wanted to visit ever since. The castle in the bay, and old town, were the scenes of viscious fighting at the tail end of the Peninsular War in 1813, so it also fit into the Napoleonic War theme. We had night after night of splendid meals of pintxos and red wine, usually sitting out on the balcony overlooking the town. San Sebastian
