![]() Bodrum castle The Castle of St. Peter in Bodrum was built by the Knights Hospitallers of St. John of Jerusalem in around 1400 as protection for their main base in Rhodes. It sits on a narrow peninsula in the Bodrum harbor, and its walls were partially built out of the columns and marbles of the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus, one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. The Mausoleum, or tomb of Mausolus, had stood on the site since around 350 BCE. |
