 Bosporus tour The Rumeli Hisar (Fortress of Europe) was built by Sultan Mehmet the Conqueror prior to the conquest of Constantinople (Istanbul) in 1453. His strategy was to build fortresses all along the straits to close them to Byzantine shipping and reinforcements. Just a few years later the city was in his hands. |
