The views from the Acropolis: The first
image shows the theater at the base of the Acropolis, where the plays
of Euripides were first performed. The second shows the old Greek
Agora or market area. The third photo shows the collapsed column at the temple of Zeus. This was a gigantic temple begun under the tyranny that came before the democratic time in Athens. When democracy was established, the city decided to leave the structure unfinished as a symbollic break with tyranny. Five centuries later, the Roman emperor-engineer Hadrian visited Athens and decided to finish it as a gift to the Greeks. The final photo shows the Tower of the Winds at the head of the Roman forum.
