Trans Siberian 2009:

For rail buffs the Trans-Siberian is a living legend. Crossing thousands of kilometers and at least a half-dozen time zones, the trains of the Trans-Siberian routes are practically speaking the longest rail service in the world by distance. In the case of the most popular route, popularly known as the Trans-Mongolian or technically trains 3 and 4, the line crosses 7600 kilometers and links two of the world's great capitals, Moscow and Beijing.

Dad and I left New York on May 21, visited Moscow, St. Petersburg, and Sergiev Posad, then boarded the Trans-Siberian in Moscow on May 26 for the ride to Beijing, arriving on June 1.

There are 30 photos in this gallery. You can skip ahead to Moscow, St. Petersburg, the Trans-Siberian, or Beijing.
