After another difficult series of bus rides, we arrived at the legendary Ipanema, where we settled into a hotel frequented by British tourists (as far as I could tell). The waves on the beach were spectacular, as was the scenery. I had to break down and buy some sunglasses after holding out for the first 10 days of the trip.
