Florence in the summer is filled with tourists and sight-seers. We had time for only a short day-trip to the city of the Medici. We walked past the Uffizi lines and mimes, by the statues of the city’s greatest names: Machiavelli, Guicciardini, Lorenzo de Medici, and Vespucci. We crossed the Ponte Vecchio through the arcade and the famous jewelry shops, and took dessert across the Arno at a small café in the Boboli Gardens. The image here shows the Ponte Vecchio, which is almost entirely rebuilt from the horrendous floods of 1966.
