In Manila

Over the Chinese national holiday in 2013 I visited the Philippines with Pockey. Our hotel was located right next to the Muralla, the city walls that enclose the old area of the city, which was virtually destroyed in WWII during the seige of Manila, when American troops retook the city. The area is filled with monuments to the American and Filipino troops and civilians who died there.

I spent some quality time discussing war strategy with President Quezon and General Douglas MacArthur in the Intramuros area, near where hundreds of Americans and Filipinos were found suffocated to death after the conclusion of the seige.
