At the Forest of Stelae Museum in Xi'an, you can see thousands of stone tablet inscriptions from as far back as 700 AD. Most are peoms, odes to fillial piety (many ordered by the emperors themselves), family histories, and examples of brilliant calligraphy. All were put into stone inscriptions to enable copying, which is still done on site.
